MARY FROST
Herbarium Specimens (Pressed Plants)
African Violet Dissection
Mary's science background in coming forward as she develops as an artist.
She's been trying her hand at dissection, creating her own personal herbarium.
This African Violet is her most recent painting subject and she found that doing the dissection is helping her to paint it more carefully and precisely, now that she knows how it's all put together.
Iris Dissection
This intensely coloured Iris was a challenge to paint as these flowers don't last very long at all.
While the painting will have to wait to be continued next spring, taking apart the bloom has made its structure more obvious and logical
Bleeding Heart Dissection
The structure of the bleeding heart is fascinating and surprising, with it's many moving parts.
Nobody in the studio will look at it the same way now that Mary has shown us its hidden secrets.
